Editor’s comment: Can we make sustainability cooler?
The 10th edition of the Commercial Interior Design Awards is fast approaching and we are pleased to shine a spotlight on the projects, developments, people and design studios that are changing the face of commercial and residential interiors across the Middle East.
With more than 300 nominations, we have received a record number of entries, which shows the strength and the capacity of the region’s design industry.
As expected, the projects submitted in the best hotel, office and food and beverage categories have set the design bar even higher for the future, making it harder than ever for the judges to determine the best of the best.
However, I must admit that I expected more projects to be submitted in the Best Sustainable Design Initiative of the Year category. Taking into account quality rather than quantity, the judges shortlisted only the projects that strongly demonstrated how sustainability can be incorporated effectively in interiors.
The selected finalists have proven that being environmentally conscious is not merely an add-on to their projects but is instead deeply integrated into their design philosophy and practice. Whether a school or a sports bar, they’ve managed to make sustainability look cool.
Sustainable Interior Design Initiative of the Year shortlist:
In next 12 months, we hope to see more projects that successfully balance sustainability, aesthetics and functionality. Such designs will always have our support.
Congratulations once again to all our finalists and we look forward to seeing you and celebrating with you at the CID Awards ceremony.
