Yas Hotel, Abu Dhabi shortlisted for WAN Hotel of the Year 2011

USA-based Asymptote Architecture’s work on the Yas Hotel in Abu Dhabi has been shortlisted for the World Architecture News (WAN) Hotel of the Year 2011 award.

The Abu Dhabi-based hotel joins five other entries from USA, Greece, Australia and Norway, with the winner to be announced on June 21, 2011.

“Out of all the hotels in the world in the last two years it’s iconic, it’s out there, and it’s stunning. It could have been a really dull box underneath it, but it’s not. It’s well stylised, I like it,” said Jeremy Heyes, senior vice president, WATG, according to WAN.

The shortlist includes: SUBhouses – Stokkøya in Åfjord, Norway, by Pir II AS; Saffire in Tasmania, Australia, by Circa Architecture; The Ritz-Carlton Hotel and Residences and J.W. Marriott at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles, USA, by Gensler; The Yas Hotel in Abu Dhabi, UAE, by Asymptote Architecture; The Standard in New York, USA, by Ennead Architects LLP; and, Grace Santorini Hotel in Imerovigli, Greece, by Divercity & Mplusm.
