Van Gogh art show set for Dubai
Official reproductions of six of Vincent Van Gogh’s most famous works will be available for viewing throughout March in Dubai, at the Fairmont The Palm’s Mashrabiya Lounge.
Art fans can take a look at Sunflowers of 1889, Almond blossom from 1890, and The harvest of 1888, as well as The bedroom, Wheatfield under thunderclouds, Boulevard de Clichy and Landscape at twilight. The iconic art will be hosted by Axel Rüger, director of the Van Gogh Museum, in Amsterdam and V. Willem van Gogh, the great grandnephew of Vincent van Gogh.
Informative tours of the collection will take place every Saturday in March starting at 2pm in the lobby and to complement this exhibition (which is also for purchase), the hotel’s culinary team has created a Van Gogh-inspired afternoon tea menu.
Both exciting events start 26 February, with the food inspired by the Mediterranean flavours from where the great artist lived and worked.
Provençal shrimps and basil on capsicum bread, and roasted and lavender-infused duck with plum chutney are two of the options available as part of the dining experience. For desert, guests can have an almond dragée choux, or a lemon and sesame macaroon.
Reproductions of the high-quality, limited and certified Van Gogh reproductions are available to buy by visiting www.vangoghme.com or calling +971 4430 9411. Proceeds from those sales will go towards continuing the maintenance and ongoing renovation of the Amsterdam museum, which holds the world’s largest collection of original masters by Van Gogh, as well as personal letters and drawings.
“Van Gogh wrote of his desire to develop a plan to share reproductions of his works with the people in his letters to his brother,” Ruger said. “We now have the capability and the technology to make his dream a reality and we’re very excited to be bringing this unique concept to the region particularly as this year represents the 125th anniversary of his death.”
