Therra Wood provides alternatives to natural wood

Turkey- based brand Therra Wood of UCM (Universal Composite Materials) provides composite wood as an alternative material to using natural wood for the outdoors applications. This material is a combination between wood and PVC.

The company provides decking, fencing, prefabricated houses, façades as well as pergolas. The material comes in either a brushed or grooved finish using a new technology called “co- extrusion” which obtains two different colours tinted in the mass.

“Our products resist the weather conditions in the region with virtually no maintenance required,” said Philippe Van Wassenhove, managing director at CWS (Composite Wood Systems), distributors of Therra Wood in Dubai.

Therra Wood’s pergolas are available in three types: open, semi-open and closed with five colour options. Using reclaimed high-quality wood fibers and virgin polymer resins, the combination creates high performance wood composite profiles.

Its façade products are also an elegant alternative to natural wood. The timber effect wood composite provides a protective layer against all weather conditions in addition to possessing excellent insulation qualities.

Van Wassenhove mentioned that the company has numerous projects under its belt including private villas in Jumeirah and Al Wasl Road and a hotel in Ras Al Khaimah as well as some refurbishment projects in the Palm.

He also added that sustainability is a driving force for the company, which is another benefit of using composite wood.

The wood polymer composite (WPC) material does not damage from UV, water, moisture, or rotting as well as being 100% recyclable.

Speaking of project opportunities in the region, Wassenhove commented: “The market is doing well at the moment. It is definitely picking up and people are finally starting to trust and invest again.”

He added that the market in Turkey is also doing well with a lot of good, new developments taking place.
