Sonal Kotecha crowned Young Interior Designer of the Year

Pallavi Dean Interiors’ Sonal Kotecha is the winner of the 2015 Young Interior Designer of the Year award.

Awarded to the most promising commercial interior designer under the age of 30, currently working in the Middle East, Kotecha was selected for active personality and her eagerness to move and absorb what the industry has to offer.

The Judges noted that Kotecha “has taken the time to understand construction and the interior design industry as a whole”.

One of the judges commented that “her involvement in the design community has not gone unnoticed nor has her personality and willingness to learn.”

She was also praised for her broad portfolio completed works.

“I feel honoured and lucky to be part of such an amazing team. They have been very inspirational and I saw all the other people who were shortlisted and they are all brilliant so I am very lucky and honoured to be in this position,” said Kotcha, senior designer at Pallavi Dean Interiors.

“My background is slightly different compared to an average interior designer. I have worked on the client’s side for a number of years so I have developed an understanding of how projects are started and finished, from concept to completion. So I think that has been very helpful for me in my career to start in that direction,” she explained.

Commenting on the office culture at Pallavi Dean Interiors, Kotecha said: “Working at Pallavi Dean Interiors is brilliant! It has a brilliant culture, very positive and the work is creative- the projects are especially interesting. I am loving it there so far.

“They have pushed me out of my comfort zone and supported me the whole way so I feel very lucky.”

Sonal was able to beat off stiff competition from the likes of Alysha Nasir from Bluehaus Group; Bianca Bouwer from Perkins + Will; Monica Twarowski from Design Worldwide Partnership; Sonal Kotecha from Pallavi Dean Interiors; and Zoe Victoria from Bishop Design LLC.

Frederico Cruz from Godwin Austen Johnson was highly commended for his broad knowledge base, charisma and strong conceptual design skills.
