Smith of Derby expands in the Middle East
Smith of Derby is investing in the design of time, with two upcoming exhibitions and its products permanently displayed in the Arte Vivo showroom in Dubai.
Clock maker Smith of Derby is heading to the Hotel Show in Dubai and the INDEX exhibition in Saudi Arabia in May 2012, having undergone an expansion of their research and development team in the last 18 months.
The company said that with strong demand in the region, hoteliers and interior designers were increasingly looking for bespoke and innovative products that set their projects apart from their competitors.
Bob Betts, Smith of Derby’s chief executive, said: “The research and development side of the business has really grown this year as the demand for luxury, high end products increase but with a twist on incredible innovation. Clients demand more. Quite simply, that’s what we deliver.”
“We arrived in the region at this time last year to launch the luxury Islamic prayer clock. That was very well received and has given us the momentum to drive the creative side of the business to where we are now and we are looking forward to another successful Hotel Show,” said Betts.
The firm will reveal a new range of clocks, based on a nautical theme, including the Meridian clock, and a new range of the luxury prayer clocks.
Added to this is, the company, for the first time, is displaying its products in a showroom in Dubai on a permanent basis.
Mike Pass, managing director for Arte Vivo, said: “Smith of Derby produces beautiful timepieces that we are very happy to have in our showroom.”
“This is an exciting opportunity for us and we are delighted to be working with Arte Vivo, a company that shares our vision of luxury interiors. We feel our timepieces compliment their existing products superbly, and it gives the chance for designers, hoteliers and architects to see our products in context and at their leisure,” added Betts.
