Saudi Arabia appoints first woman design college dean

Dr Sumaya Bint Sulaiman Al Sulaiman has been appointed as the first Saudi woman dean of a design college.

Al Sulaiman is now dean of the College of Design at the Imam Abdul Rahman Bin Faysal University in Eastern Province.

She holds a PhD in architecture from University of Newcastle in the UK and also holds a master’s degree in architecture from King Faisal University as well as certificates in management, leadership, strategy and innovation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The website of the design college says it was “founded on supporting the educational and intellectual growth of Saudi women by equipping them with an excellent design education that is closely tied to the context of the Arab and Islamic society while exposing students to the latest global trends”.
