New York showcases Calatrava “human forest” designs

New York’s Park Avenue is the setting for an exhibition of the work of artist, architect, and engineer Santiago Calatrava.

Opening yesterday (Monday) and running unril mid-November it features seven new red, black and silver painted aluminum sculptures installed along the central reservation between 52nd and 55th Streets.

These works represent the artist’s continued exploration of expressive forms and structure abstracted from nature.

Calatrava said: “Their relation to the natural world suggests a link between man and nature, implying the sculptures are found objects in a human forest.”
