Muscat seminar looks at city’s urban identity
The architectural identity of the Omani capital of Muscat was the subject of a seminar held jointly by the local authority and RIBA.
HE Mohsen Bin Mohammed Al Sheikh, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, headed the debate which started by looking at challenges facing the construction environment and the effect of urban planning and urban design practices on the identity of the city.
A second panel discussed practical examples of development projects and the third session touched on shaping the identity of the city through the traditional architecture, the differences between local urban design and modern architecture.
The seminar also addresses means of utilising modern technologies in ensuring a unique architectural identity for Muscat.
