Mountain lodge and Hollywood-style sign planned for Hatta

A giant sign at a height of 450m in the Hajjar Mountains will be the first among a raft of new projects that aim to boost eco-tourism in Hatta.

Dubai developer Meraas also has plans to offer retail and hospitality offerings, with the first phase scheduled to open in the last quarter of 2018.

An adventure centre and an interactive tourism information hub are also set to open in the town. Also part of the first phase of the development is a 20-room mountain lodge offering views of the surrounding landscape, the developer announced.

Hatta has always been a popular day trip destination for UAE residents, for its scenic landscape of mountains, pools, wadis, farms and dams. A soon-to-open hotel with luxury camping trailers will allow visitors to camp on the banks of the Hatta dam.

The new projects are part of the Dhs1.3bn Hatta Comprehensive Development Plan, officially launched in November 2016. The plan includes creating winter sports facilities, hiking trails, a cultural festival, hundreds of homes for Emiratis and a hydroelectric power station.
