Mouaz Abouzaid of Dewan wins Young Architect of the Year 2016
Making people live happily and feel good about themselves is the goal of this year’s Young Architect of the Year, Mouaz Abouzaid of Dewan.
The judges praised his “strong commitment to sustainability” and added that he will be “a person to watch out for very closely over the coming years”.
Abouzaid, who has among his roles at Dewan lead designer and technology and BIM manager, said: “It’s really an honour to get this award. I think it will take me to another level. I have done a lot of work during the last year.
“I was highly commended two years ago and finally I did it this year. I would like to thank everyone from my colleagues, my parents, my wife, my kids who have supported me.
The designer who has been working for Dewan for over a year, said: “I have a real passion for design and BIM. Today when I’m looking at the project from the concept stage to the tender documents, I’m careful to go through the project from the first sketch to the last detail.
“I believe everyone should dream big,” he said.
Born in Cairo he first worked in Qatar before moving to Dubai.
This year’s winner has a real passion for the use of BIM in all stages of the design process and feels it stands for “Better Information Management” rather than “Building Information Management”.
Highly commended for the category was Aezad Muzaffar Alam of Studio M Meraas.
