Moscow to build new district with manmade waterways
A new district with manmade waterways has been chosen as part of a masterplan to double the size of Moscow.
The jury selected the entry from Capital Cities Planning Group containing landscape designers Gillespies, urban designers John Thompson & Partners and engineering consultants Buro Happold.
Named ‘City in the Forest’, the project is arranged around a series of lakes designed by Gillespies.
It will house 1.7 million people and provide 800,000 jobs, mainly in government, education and business sectors.
Brian Evans, partner in charge of Gillespies Glasgow office, said: “It seems that our design to use the natural topography of the site to create a series of lakes as the setting for the new Federal District was one of the key factors in the jury’s mind when they appraised the different proposals.”
