MEA Awards 2017: Perkins+Will wins Large Architecture Firm of the Year
Perkins+Will won Large Architecture Firm of the Year at the 2017 Middle East Architect Awards for the third time in a row.
With projects in the GCC like Kings College Hospital, BLVD Heights and the Marriott Diplomatic Quarter Hotel, the team continues to deliver high-quality architecture and design projects across the region and beyond.
When scoring the shortlist, the judges were looking at the submissions with the best description of company values, design principles as well as the number of successfully completed projects. One judge noted Perkins+Will’s ‘tireless dedication’.
Another judge recognised the firm’s investment in a solid portfolio of credible projects that emit a “trustworthy level of expertise”. Our judges further noted the winner’s quality projects, design innovation and social responsibility.
Commenting on winning the award for third year in a row, Firas Hnoosh, principal and design director of architecture of the Dubai Studio, said, “I think that we combined two things: the large-scale firm with real sensitivity to good design and the ability to bring talent from all over the world. Our studio is very dynamic and we support our teams with great resources. I think that’s what makes us diverse.”
“We are very much about form and function, but also very contextual,” he added. “We take all of our projects in their context; we are not ‘gift wrappers’. We are thinkers and we try to understand trends and even forecast them, bringing to our clients value through design, rather than just simply designing functional boxes.”
Rola Cheikh Ammar, head of showroom operations at RAK Ceramics, presented the award.
U+A was highly commended for being a “quickly growing powerhouse in the region”, as described by our panel.
