Emaar launches international architecture competition for Iconic Mosque in Dubai Creek Harbour

Emaar Development has launched an international open design competition for the design of an “iconic mosque” located on the Dubai Creek Harbour waterfront development, which also features Santiago Calatrava’s The Tower project.

The brief calls for the proposal of the mosque to be “iconic in design”, to be able to house 7,500 worshipers internally, and to feature an accessible roof with a capacity to house an additional 2,000 worshipers.

The guidelines also requires for the design to incorporate a library and Quran teaching rooms as well as outdoor spaces including gardens and “areas for contemplation”. Read full design and technical brief here. 

The submissions need to be completed in English and is legible for officially recognised architects, architecture firms or students.

Five projects will be shortlisted with the designers given opportunity to present their proposals to the judges.

The winning entry will receive a prize of USD40,000, while the remaining four shortlisted entries will receive USD10,000.

The competition date opened on April 4, with a deadline date set for May 21 (12:00 noon UAE time).
