Broadway Interiors wins Moooi Carpet’s design competition
Design studio Broadway Interiors won this year’s ‘Design Your Own Carpet’ competition, launched by Dubai-based furniture distributor, Superstudio, in collaboration with Dutch brand Moooi Carpets.
Titled ‘Forest”, and design by Maddane Anne Luces from Broadway Interiors, the collection consists of four colourful carpets, representing the four seasons.
Architects and designers from the region were invited to take part and submit their original designs for the next Moooi Carpets concept while the winning design will be included in Moooi’s Signature Collection.
“The inspiration came from the designer’s longing to experience the rainy season back in the Philippines, due to the dry, arid conditions here in Dubai. Her imagination allowed her to be creative with that desire, developing the ‘Forest’ colour and texture pattern, which initially incorporated a day and night colour version, before its expansion into the winning ‘Forest – Four Seasons’ design. We are delighted to have won this award and are looking forward to seeing our designs in the Moooi range,” said Chris Barnes, managing director of Broadway Interiors.
Artistic director of Moooi, Marcel Wanders selected the winning carpet design, which was announced by superstudio during Dubai Design Week 2016. Wanders had chosen both designs due to the design being a perfect fit for contract interiors.
He said: “Since the inception of Moooi Carpets in 2015, the design community has embraced our passion for creating this high-definition full-colour carpet technology and the truly limitless canvas it offers designers. This contest was a great opportunity to build on what we’ve started. I am thankful to everyone who made this great competition possible. The entries were spectacular. I was astonished by the overall quality. Their submissions reflect their dedication to design and aesthetics. Each is especially flattering to this technology and presents a wonderful step toward producing one-of-a-kind custom-made living or contract environments.”
The second place winner was a “Global bedouin” carpet, submitted by Maliha Nishat, design director at Design World Partnership (dwp). Nishat’s rug can be utilised either as a regular rug or draped over a bench to create a dual purpose rug.
