Roca launches One Day Design Challenge to promote young designers

Young professionals and design students under the age of 30 have the opportunity of participating in the competition Roca One Day Design Challenge, an event that, after becoming established in Spain and Hong Kong, arrives to Dubai for the first time. With a dynamic and innovative format, the competition challenges participants to design, in one single day, innovative concepts for the bathroom space.
The first edition of the competition in United Arab Emirates, which will take place on the 29th October, falls within the framework of the Dubai Design Week, an event that promotes design and innovation.
The One Day Design Challenge is a platform for the development of young individuals, which extends once the competition finishes through its own website, where the “Designers” section provides visibility to the winners of the different editions, becoming a showcase to promote the work of the leading participants.
This is a unique opportunity for participants to show their talent, to develop their creativity and to have the experience of dealing with the professional and business world, apart from gaining visibility and promoting networking.
This is the first time the competition takes place in Dubai, after the consolidation of the five editions in Barcelona and Madrid, After the experience and the obtained success, the first international edition was organised in Hong Kong last year, a city that will celebrate its second edition this year. On this occasion, in view of the success of that edition, we commit to growing internationally with the first edition in the United Arab Emirates.
Rules of procedure. Anyone wishing to participate needs to register on the website of the competition: http://www.onedaydesignchallenge.net. A briefing will be handed first thing in the morning to all registered participants with a specific theme they will need to work on and which needs to be handed in at 5 pm. From that moment on, a jury made up of professionals in the sector will deliberate and choose the winning projects. Meanwhile, the participants will enjoy a cocktail with live music while taking the opportunity to do networking. The award ceremony will take place after that.
The awards: 6,000 AED for the first prize; 4,000 AED for the second prize; and 2,000 AED for the third prize.
What aspects are valued by the jury? The aspects that will be taken into account are the innovation, creativity and originality of the proposals, as well as the sustainability, accessibility and the fact that they guarantee the well-being of people. All these aspects are included as values and concerns of the Roca brand, which always responds to the needs of society adapting to it.
The jury: Isabel Roig, Director of BCD; Marta Michalowska, Polish conceptual designer with great experience in innovation processes, Anthony Chan, president of the Hong Kong Interior Design Association or Eisuke Tachikawa, Japanese designer and founder of Nosigner have been members of the jury in previous editions.

Schedule: From 9 am to 5 pm – Registration, welcome, briefing and development of the projects
From 7.30 pm – Celebration and awards ceremony
