A look back at DesignMENA Summit 2016
More than 150 leading members of the architecture and interior design professions gathered together for the fourth annual designMENA Summit, held at the Conrad Hotel in Dubai.
The event, organised by Commercial Interior Design and Middle East Architect magazines as well as designMENA.com, included discussions on creating a cultural identity through design and architecture, the challenges of creating integrated neighbourhoods and the opportunities within midscale and budget hospitality projects.
Other topics covered included the case study on the recently opened Dubai Opera by Janus Rostock, design director at Atkins, the role of street art in urban spaces as well as a presentation on enhancing interior experiences through graphic design by Carla Conte, co-founder of Brand Creative.
London-based industrial designer and entrepreneur Benjamin Hubert concluded the conference, discussing various points of his work, and his newly rebranded studio, Layer, which he founded last year during London Design Festival. Layer is a creative agency focusing on meaningful experiences based on extensive research and human behaviours.
This year’s Summit saw support from various companies including RAK Ceramics, Geberit, RZB Lighting, ISEO, Mas Paints, Cosentino and Dekton, Wilson Fabrics, LG Business Solutions, Huda Lighting, Edge, iGuzzini, Areeka Furniture Rental as well as the Association of Professional Interior Designer (APID) and RIBA Gulf.
