Dubai’s latest skyscraper Uptown Tower reached 329 metres last week when the 79th level had its final pouring of concrete for the roof.

The building in Dubai’s south will reach 340 metres when the building’s steel crown is finished in early in 2022, say developer DMCC, a free zone in the emirate.

More than 23,000 vehicles have delivered about 140,000 cubic metres of concrete to complete the project, and 30,000 tonnes of steel was used as reinforcement.

Uptown Tower is expected to be fully complete in Q3 2022 when it will be the first supertall tower in the Uptown Dubai District.

Architcture of Uptown Tower

Uptown Tower’s architecture was conceptualised by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture. Adrian Smith designed the Burj Khalifa while he was a design partner at SOM Chicago.

Its faceted glass façade is supposed to replicate diamonds while illuminating the interior spaces with natural light while filtering out harsh glare.

The design and construction of the structure and facade are by Six Construct, part of BESIX.

Once finished, the skyscraper overlooking Jumeirah Lakes Towers will be home to the DMCC headquarters and a 188-key 5-star luxury hotel – ‘SO/ Uptown Dubai’ – a mix of restaurants, offices and 229 branded residences.

In line with DMCC’s sustainability efforts, the Uptown Tower aims to achieve a LEED Gold certification.
