When judging the Residential Project of the Year category the panel picked F.LOT by Studio Toggle as the winner.
This award acknowledges project designs that provide a comfortable and attractive living environment for residents and the judges felt these criteria were adeptly adhered to by the design team, registering a win in a very competitive category.
The judges praised “an original solution that goes beyond styles and orthodox references to create an excellent sequence of well-defined spaces with interiors just as expressive as exteriors.”
Studio Toggle was established in 2011 by Hend Almatrouk and Gijo Paul George, both graduates of the Universität für Angewandte Kunst, Vienna.
Almatrouk said: “This is our first project and we were not expecting to win the award at all. We just thought that we would come here and mingle with the big guys and see what’s happening in the industry.
“For this project we didn’t want to go for a traditional concept of the build-up in the Middle East. We tried to come up with a sustainable way to find solutions to the problems that you face in the Middle East when it comes to construction quality and minimalism. The judges probably saw originality we put into design and the risk that we took and maybe that’s why we won.”
