Dubai crocodile park set for October 2016 opening

Dubai is set to achieve another first for the Middle East – the city’s very own crocodile reserve.

A park to house these snappy creatures is expected to be built in the next 14 months.

A 20,000m2 site has been identified near Mushrif Park and Nile Crocodiles are set to be the main attraction.

The Dubai Municipality project will begin preparation next month with an emphasis on environmentally-friendly design with renewable energy for its operation.

Head of Administrative Services, Obaid Ebrahim Al Marzouqi, said the reptiles will be constantly cared for, even when being transported and have healthy living conditions.

The park will include educational facilities as well as being a tourist attraction.

The Nile Crocodile is Africa’s largest and can reach a maximum size of about six meters. It can weigh up to 730 kilograms. The species lives throughout sub-Saharan Africa, the Nile Basin, and Madagascar in rivers, freshwater marshes, and mangrove swamps.
