Canada launches tender for design of country pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai

The tender for the Canada Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai has officially been launched, with all major contracts for Canada’s presence at the world fair to be tendered and contracted through the Canadian Government’s regular procurement process, Construction Week Online reported. 

A request for information (RFI) has been issued to deliver design, building, construction, and dismantling services for Canada Pavilion, including its exhibition component.

The tender was made live on the Canadian Public Works and Government Services portal on 6 February, 2019, and is due to close on 26 February.

According to an update on 17 February from Marcy Grossman, General Consul of Canada in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, other contracts relating to Canada’s presence at Expo 2020 Dubai may also include communications, hosting services, a gift shop, and other products and services necessary to operate the pavilion.

“These opportunities will be posted publicly in the coming months,” she said in her emailed statement.

The Canada Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai tender notice read: “There will be no shortlisting of potential suppliers for the purposes of undertaking any future work as a result of this RFI. Similarly, participation in this RFI is not a condition or prerequisite for the participation in any potential subsequent solicitation.

“Responses will be kept confidential, subject to the provisions of [Canada's] Access to Information Act, and will be retained to support further development of internal planning documents and decisions, and possibly any future [request for proposals].”

The news comes amid a string of country pavilion-related announcements in the run up to Expo 2020 Dubai, which officially opens its doors on 20 October, 2020.

Last week saw Spain unveil its pavilion within the UAE megaproject’s Sustainability District. Expo 2020 Dubai's Spain Pavilion will feature a series of conical volumes that allow an increased air flow for cooling.
