The UAE cultural centre and library House of Wisdom is to embrace the latest digital art trend.
Designed by British architectural design and engineering firm Foster & Partners and resting under the development portfolio of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), the building is a stunning amalgamation of Arabic architecture and the latest interactive facilities.
Now it is to play host to the first non-fungible tokens (NFT) art exhibition in Sharjah.
Gateway to the Metaverse
More than 60 international and 15 regional artists will take part in the multi-theme ‘Gateway to the Metaverse.’
The exhibition opens on Tuesday, 1 March at 10.30am in the House of Wisdom, Al Khwarizmi Exhibition and runs until 15 April, 2022.
Organisers hope the show, which will be broadcast across 24 screens, will “bridge the gap between the traditional and digital art worlds and introduce visitors and the artistic community to the new wave of creativity that is transforming the art landscape worldwide.”
A two-day seminar and a workshop are also planned to help artists turn their work into crypto pieces.
House of Wisdom
Since opening in December 2020, House of Wisdom has brought to the fore a new concept of a ‘future library,’ where its physical form and the cultural role will see the merging of the activity of reading and acquiring knowledge in a socially centred, collaborative, and creative space.
The cultural destination also features ‘The Scroll,’ a monument designed by renowned UK-based artist Gerry Judah.

In a nutshell, the Metaverse is a broad term used to encompass various virtual spaces where people meet and interact in an immersive environment, whether to remotely socialise, play games or attend virtual concerts or events.
As per Firas Alsahin, co-founder and design director at 4SPACE Design, the Metaverse is attracting more and more people every day and staggeringly traffic is already higher than traditional websites. Teleporting around the universe will soon become second nature.
