Korean pop culture to be main focus of country's pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai
South Korea’s music, travel, Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) ambitions, and pop culture will be highlighted through its ‘continuously changing’ country pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.
The latest pavilion to be revealed for Expo 2020 Dubai, the Republic of Korea stand at the World Expo, which opens its doors on 20 October, 2020, will symbolise “the nations attempts to steer humanity towards a brighter tomorrow”.
According to Construction Week, Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (Kotra), a part of South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, is developing the pavilion. On the South Korean pavilion’s official competition website, Kotra lists the project’s expected construction cost to be $14.3m, with design costs totalling around $805,125.
Adopting the theme of ‘Smart Korea, Moving the World to You’, South Korea’s pavilion will host events to capitalise on the “global popularity of its cinema, television, and music”.
In a statement, Expo 2020 Dubai revealed that “rotating cubes” will be used to create “continuously changing images” on the exterior of the South Korean pavilion.
The Mobility District pavilion, spanning 5,200m2, features a five-storey design that draws on the concept of “a group dancing with excitement”. To highlight Korea’s contribution to Industry 4.0, technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and the Internet of Things will be on display at the pavilion.
Inside the Republic of Korea Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, a “spiral-shaped exhibition space” will be created to offer panoramic views of the World Expo’s site.
Super Spatial’s entry received an honourable mention as part of the design competition held for Expo 2020 Dubai’s South Korea pavilion.
