Sweden Pavilion for Expo 2020 Dubai to highlight Nordic nature

The Sweden Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai will feature tree houses as part of a design to recreate the Nordic forests of Scandinavia in the desert.

Designed by a team of architects from France, Italy, and Sweden, the pavilion will blend western and Islamic art styles by incorporating Swedish nature with Middle Eastern mashrabiyas.

Stockholm-based Alessandro Ripellino Architects, Studio Adrien Gardère, and Luigi Pardo Architetti are the companies behind the successful design, reported Construction Week Online.

Hundreds of tree trunks will rise from the ground floor, giving visitors the impression they are walking through a forest. Some of these trunks will support raised offices and meeting rooms, making them look like three houses.

The ground floor will have an open-plan exhibition area with a large mirrored structure dividing the room to create what Expo 2020 Dubai called a “refined and simple result”.

Sweden is the latest country to opt for a nature-inspired design for its Expo 2020 Dubai pavilion.
